Absolutely no difference whatsoever. The only advantage with the MB-D80 is more shooting time, and an extra set of controls for shooting in Portrait orientation. (plus it just makes the camera look more professional) ;-)

I am not certain but I believe the reason for this is that the D80 is a ‘throttled’ D200 in this respect and therefore won’t go any faster no matter how much extra power you provide.

I was wondering the same thing initially so I tested, and there is no difference.

no it doesnt, it doesnt have any effect with the d200 either as i own one, the d200 is 5fps battery pack or not. what it means is more shooting time basically, and for those who require it an extra shutter release button for vertical grip.
if you dont really need the extra shooting time, and cud probably make do with charging a spare battery and just swapping it over then its probably not worth the extra dosh

As they have said here It does not change the fps rate. Remember the number of frames pers second is also impacted by write speeds and the size of the internal memory buffer

I’d have to look at the MB-D80 but with the MB-D10 the main reason I bought it was that I could when I choose to use other batteries including AA which I could get anywhere and carry a bunch of even on backpacking trips
